LEIGH FORBES: Books of all Sorts

Candles and Roses

5-star

by Alex Walters.

When the body of a young woman is discovered in a shallow grave surrounded by candles and roses, DI McKay – still haunted by the death of his own daughter – is called in to find the killer; but it’s not long before a second body, and then a third, is discovered, both shrined with candles and roses too. Meanwhile, someone is turning up in the lives of young women elsewhere in the UK, and offering them lifts…

Walters writes Scotland wonderfully – the moors, the sea, the weather… (not always as bad as you think), and he weaves a complicated yet convincing tale. I heartily recommend this and his other books.

An easy 5 stars.
