LEIGH FORBES: Books of all Sorts

Dead Water

by Ann Cleeves.

A bereaved Jimmy Perez gradually gets hooked into a murder case, this time led by an incoming inspector, the very likable Willow Reeves. Spoiled journalist Jerry Markham is dead, but who did it? Was it his spurned ex-lover? the ex-lover’s fiancé? The ex-lover’s fiancé’s best friend? Or someone else? Jimmy’s brain hurts with trying to work it all out. And the discovery of another body leads to theories that make him think he’s going mad.

I found Dead Water a little slower in places than previous Shetland novels, but the characters still called to me when I was trying to do other things, and had to know what happened. 4.5 stars.
